WELCOME TO MATTOS!
We always feel a joy
in coming back to our returning families and hearing the experiences that
they had during the summer. It is like going on a trip and returning home
to see all these familiar surroundings. We would like to take this time
to welcome our new family members. We all enjoy this time of year as we
receive the new faces that replace old friends who are not returning to
us. We hope that you enjoy us as much as we are enjoying your children.
We welcome everyone back with open arms. It is really exciting to see your
children again and note the difference in their height and personalities,
to hear the excitement in their voices about what they did this summer,
and to hear if they lost a tooth or grew an adult one. We hope everyone
is ready to get back in the groove and down to business and enjoy another
year here at Mattos.
SEPTEMBER
THEMES
September 4-6.................. Making Friends
September 9-13................ Circle of Friends
September 16-20.............. Back in the Groove
September 23-27.............. It's Time for Fall
A.M.
ACTIVITIES
Our staff has a project every morning such as friendship
bracelets, picture frames, hand wreaths, and many, many more. They are
also outside playing wallball, basketball, 4-square, baseball, and kickball.
KINDER
CORNER
We have several new kinders that are very fun and creative. They are all
getting to know each other while doing projects together and playing in
the playhouse area. We are learning about friendship and sharing with others.
The kinders are always special to me because it is fun to watch them grow
throughout the school year.
P.M.
ACTIVITIES
During September we did several projects with paintings, name games, friendship
bracelets, frames, and getting back on track. October is fun getting the
room ready for Halloween. We are making pumpkins, black cats, ghosts, spiders,
and just having fun getting the room ready for our first parent function.
We also are playing lots of basketball, baseball, kickball, baseball, wall
ball, 4-square, and kickback baseball. Our kids love the outdoors.
HOMEWORK
HEROES CLUB
Our Homework Heroes Club is getting off to a great start. We have once
again given the children a challenge: If they can top Christopher's homework
sheets this year, they will get an extra special prize at the end of the
year. Last year Christopher received a soccer ball. All they have to do
is ask a teacher to sign them up for the Club and then do their homework
while at Adventure Time. We do encourage your children to do their homework
here, especially if they are involved with other after-school activities.
Please remember that we can't force your child to do their homework,
we can only encourage them. We have a set of encyclopedias and some really
good resource books. We will have two H.H.C. parties for them during the
year, but children must be consistent in doing their work here in order
to participate.

SPECIAL
ANNOUNCEMENT
Please mark your calendars now for October 31. Before you take your children
Trick or Treating, stop by for our Haunted House Celebration.
This will be an exciting parent event for everyone in our family,
including parents and siblings. There will be a good fairy here so that
the young children will not be frightened, and also for parents who don't
like haunted houses. It is a really fun event that the kids look forward
to every year. It will be our first parent event, and we will have cake,
coffee, and punch. If you wish, come dressed in costume. In the event that
the children do not wear costumes at school, please feel free to send their
costumes and they may put them on here after school. A flyer will be sent
home reminding you of the event, and also, watch the room get decorated
by your children to help make it scary.
IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER
It is important, for the safety of your child, that when you have someone
else pick him or her up for you, they will need I.D., and you must
tell us in advance. Your child knowing that person is not enough.
Under no circumstances
is anyone allowed to drive on school grounds; again, this is for the safety
of your children. This means rain or shine.
Please remember to call
if your child is not coming to A.T.
